YP2F HQ is launching Little Projects, our residency pilot program. The vision is to build the capacity for YP2F's HQ space to be consistently used as a community resource center and neighborhood hub. This pilot program intends to support two engaged community members to use HQ as a base for their own projects while they in turn contribute back through community programming, open studio time, support in building up our network, and bringing our overall vision closer to reality.
YP2F HQ is a space to connect with room to grow. Young People the Front HQ is a program of YP2F Incorporated and 501c3 Non Profit Organization that facilitates stability, wellness, and health for young adults transitioning to sustained independence. We provide a third space where young adults have the network infrastructure and supportive environment to actively participate in their communities, creating room for creative experimentation, professional growth, and the flourishing of the diverse subcultures that make our neighborhoods vibrant and welcoming, and the social networks that lead to multi-dimensional stability.
We believe that by providing co-working, recording studio, and infrastructure resources to residents — who will in turn bring programming such as events, workshops, activities, art installations, and art projects — we create opportunities for young people who have exited homelessness to connect with a network of LA-rooted individuals invested in the preservation and transformation of Los Angeles. Ultimately Little Projects creates shared experiences of learning, creating, and connecting and contributing to an overall ecosystem of care.
RESIDENCY DESCRIPTION
We are offering two open-residency tracks for our pilot. Residents apply with a unique Little Project proposal. Proposals fall into one of two focus tracks and will be awarded on the strength of a pitch that is unique and innovative. Proposals will be scored on their potential for community and network engagement, their relation to the overall YP2F mission, and the applicant's ability to execute the project within the given time scope and budget.
RESIDENCY TRACKS
YP2F AFTER DARK: The focus of this first track is to increase the capacity of community offerings on weekday evenings. Proposals should center on collaborative projects, workshops, and activities.Examples: book club, drawing workshop, theater workshop, movement, movie screenings, documentary club, comedy open mic, essay club, tenants' rights, civic engagement.
STORYTELLING @ YP2F: The second focus track supports proposals that use the YP2F Storytelling Studio. Projects may include a community programming element (i.e., public and consistent), but it is not required. Projects that engage the community or transfer skills will be prioritized. The final project should be a resource to the community. We encourage projects that create an art product or installation — for example, a zine, podcast series, video series, art installation, or archive project.
Although we only have capacity for two awards in this initial pilot, we hope to receive a diverse range of proposals and to scale the project in the future. We especially want to support community members who do not have easy access to studio space, professional networks, or paid time to develop their projects.
Eligibility criteria:
18 or older
LA County resident, with priority for CD13 and Virgil Village
Willing to commit to programming and member-facing hours (see commitments below)
Note: YP2F HQ is on the second floor of an office building only accessible by stairs. We have a Mobile Stairlift for temporary assistance for some people. See YP2F website for full accessibility statement.
DURATION AND TIMING
10-week fall cohort, running October through December
We believe ten weeks is enough time for a resident to develop a project meaningfully and run a real programming arc.
COMPENSATION
$300 per week per resident for 10 weeks, for a total of $3,000 per resident. Stipend will be dispersed biweekly (in alignment to a payroll cycle) via an e-payment processing platform. Stipend is used per residence discretion and no additional funds will be provided specifically for additional supplies or materials beyond what YP2F HQ already has on hand.
While the stipend will be reported to the applicable state and federal tax agencies, this is not a paid position and does not constitute employment. Residents will submit a w2 to YP2F and receive a 1099 in 2027. You must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require sponsorship for an employment visa now or in the future.
RESIDENT COMMITMENTS (THE GIVE-BACK)
The Little Projects residency requires a give-back to YP2F as an organization. Over the 10-week residency, residents are expected to:
Be physically present at HQ at least 2 days per week, on consistent days that members can predict
Represent YP2F and participate in outward-facing communications and development materials related to the overall residency program
Participate in Little Projects cohort meetings
Optional commitments:
Offer 2 hours per week of open studio time when members can drop in to watch the work or join in
Take part in one structured mentorship pairing with a YP2F member who has a related creative interest
